My five-plus year-old pair of MDRs is still going strong, and I’ve frankly abused the hell out of them. Never used a case, shoved them into all sorts of bags and suitcases and yanked them out, and beyond some wear on the padding, you’d never know it.

Sony MDR-7506 or V6’s and Sennheiser 280HD Pro’s are what most sound/video techs will use. The Sennheisers sound a little better but they are heavy and not a comfy to wear for long period of time. But if you want some street style, the Sennheiser 558’s are great.
