To which I say, "Duh." My skinny big sister never exercises (ok, she occasionally takes a beginner's Pilates class Saturday mornings before she heads to Panera for a cinnamon bun) and eats a bowl of Moose Tracks ice cream every night. I've always had an exercise routine (although since starting grad school I have

@broad: There is a very big difference between reunion and openness from the get-go. It's very much apples & oranges.

@StuckOnRepeat: I think there's a moral obligation to honor family contact. We're not legally obligated either.

@Ari Schwartz: So the headline should read "poverty makes kids fat", right?

I have hated Madonna since she thanked Mtv for showing videos of her when she was "chubby" (i.e., at my goal weight) but the way she handled her "adoptions" (aka jaunts into baby stealing) makes me sick. I'm an adoptive mom who has an open adoption with my daughter's first mom and IMHO there is a special place in hell

@Legs: Reminds me of this Grace Paley quote: "People always say to me, 'Do you want to be known as a woman writer?' The point is, you should be one of the best writers. And then after that, you can be a woman writer, a Jewish writer, whatever you want to be."

@A_minor: For some of us there is a big difference between being six and eight months pregnant and for others of us, not as much.

Jerzy Kosinski for Blind Date — the fictional autobiography of a (ahem) sympathetic rapist. I think I was 15 when I read that and got very very depressed. Oh and Bukowski? It's the pedophilia that puts him on my list.

Actually the song Neneh and Michael did was about AIDS and it was for the Red, Hot and Blue album — that one that did covers of Cole Porter songs? I've got it on my iTunes and I can hook you up. (wink wink nudge nudge) Although Neneh's first album did have a song that I think was anti-abortion: The Next Generation.
