I’ve always loathed Keillor: He’s a pompous ass, his “genial wise man” radio persona is 100 percent fake, his real name is “Gary” and he changed it to “Garrison” yet decries pretentiousness in his act, he wheezes and makes gross noises when he speaks (which would normally be a hindrance to a radio career), and his

Yeah, I feel like this is another Louis CK scenario: his pervy ways have kind of been common knowledge for years, but pre-Weinstein, he had too much clout for anything to be done about it.

My reaction to that statement, and again to his longer one:

Yep, 1994, sounds about right. Anita Hill pissed off a LOT of men by bringing their bullshit into the sunlight first time around.

You’re sure jumping to some weird conclusions, friend, in the face of news that one dude freshly accused of sexual misconduct was eager to make tons of excuses for another dude who has admitted to sexual misconduct.

YES. As a non-Minnesotan who lived in Minnesota for several years, the whole cult of personality around him just baffled me. Still does.

THE NASAL WHEEZING *barfs forever*

Yeah, like it’s 1000% not the point (and is maybe actually contrary to the point, because the point is that this kind of shit happens *everywhere*, not just with people we don’t like) but GOD I FUCKING HATE GARRISON FUCKING KEILLOR AND HIS WHOLE MISERABLE SMARMY AESTHETIC SO FUCKING MUCH GAAAAAAAH!

You can practically see his intellectual hand-tenting in that quote.

.

“Eleven years later, a talk show host in LA, she goes public, and there is talk of resignation. This is pure absurdity, and the atrocity it leads to is a code of public deadliness. No kidding.”

Um...okay, yes, I’ll take that tradeoff. Works for me.

“...where the women are strong, mainly from fighting off unwanted sexual advances.”

I’ve been hearing Garrison Keillor has a sexual harassment problem for at least a decade.

If only he had a platform to tell his side of the story, perhaps in a wispy nostalgic tone, while taking loud breaths into a microphone.

“It’s been a gropey week here in Lake Wobegon...”

“a story that I think is more interesting and more complicated than the version MPR heard.”

And not just fired, but they severed all relationships with his companies, as well, so they will no longer broadcast the Writer’s Almanac or rebroadcast Prairie Home Companion, are renaming Prairie Home Companion (he retired as host a couple of years ago), and are separating from the public-radio-stuff catalog that I

Have I been doing friendship with women wrong all this time?
