predatory schemes are bad, even if other games are predatory

Ah gotcha. I don’t know that this is exceptional, per se, but I think the loss of digital mediums is very novel, and one that humankind hasn’t had a chance to reckon with yes. Maybe it’s not on the publishers to archive, but it would help a lot if they built less fragile works + stopped suing archivists like Rockstar…

I’ve never been more pleased to drop AAA gaming completely. Fuck it. They don’t care about the developers, they don’t care about the integrity of their games, and they don’t care about the consumers.

The issue is twofold:

because its an unethical business practice that preys on the psychology of gambling behavior. any game company hiding behind “it’s just cosmetics it’s harmless smile” is being dishonest

Afterlove EP looks really neat, though the english VO is a little rough from that trailer.

Any game that is F2P with in-game transactions is a “game as a service”. Especially when they try to lure consumers in with battlepasses or other treadmill opportunities that will soak them for pocket change.

True, consumers typically go whatever is being promoted...so perhaps if game journalists stopped breathlessly covering every movement of these predatory things...?

just...stop playing “game as service” games. it’s the same story over and over, and we keep giving them money to keep up these abusive practices.

no more then there is normally, honestly. most online play checks version numbers and other portions of code. you have to get pretty sophisticated to bypass these checks, so out of the few people willing to jailbreak their ps4, there’s an even smaller slice willing to do the legwork to cheat on it.
