My grandfather came from a family of fourteen. Seven of them lived. One of his siblings, a toddler, drowned in a puddle of water, presumably after knocking his head. Nobody went to jail. They lived on a farm in Tennessee. Those things happened.

The child is gone though. At the risk of sounding like one of my aunties, nothing can bring that poor baby back. The mother needs help, not jail. 

What particularly worries me about this story is it’s about the policing of women’s bodies, which is becoming more and more rampant.
