I assume (and think I’ve read) that Black Jeopardy is written by black writers. Would it make a difference if that was not true?

This may sound rhetorical but it’s not; I’m genuinely interested in what other comedy fans think:

I still say we all should have realized something was up at Penn State. I mean, this was their team bus when Sandusky was there:

It’s hard to get too upset about this. It got better over the course of the season but it was ultimately pretty inessential. I’m really only disappointed to see it go because I liked the two friend characters (fake Neal and fake Bill) and it felt like they were being set up to get more story in a second season.

The cruel flip side to this inspiring story is now I really want some cupcakes.

See, I think this was an improvement over the last couple of episodes. You’re right about the opening bit with Joe being bizarre and pointless, but the rest of it I thought was funny. Eric Stonestreet deserves an Emmy for his line read of “Er, well I may have seen a few of that actors films” in response to the girls’s

Oh sure. Next thing you’ll be saying that switching to non-alcoholic beer will make me a better mohel. When does it end?

I’m still weirdly kind of digging this. I feel like it captures the the rhythms and tone of the old show in a way that lots of nostalgia projects fail to. And apart from the too on the nose Trump stuff from last week, I’ve have found it easy enough to compartmentalize the regressive stuff as the voice of Roseanne

I think that may be a function of the Trump era and of Oliver’s target choices. Sure, payday loan companies and for profit universities are shady and do ruin people’s lives, but those are evil on a scope I can find catharsis in laughing at. A bunch of racists running the US Government and making “screw brown people”

What do the writers at this site think the word “tween” means? They misuse it all the time.

I’ll probably end up watching these both for a couple weeks at least because I have an appetite for the family sitcom format as comfort food. But neither one shows a whole lot of promise.

Pretty good ep, though I hope that nobody at ABC is tempted to make Hydragrassi: The Next Generation a thing.

That’s where I know him from!

I have no problem with child actors in general or Ames McNamara in particular. The issues I have with the performance stem more from the writing than the acting. The problem with a character like Mark in a show like this is that he mostly becomes just a prop for the adult actors to react to. Presumably a nine year old

Weird of the review not to address Mark’s gender nonconformity, given that it was the main plot point of the second episode. For what it’s worth, I thought it was pretty well done, though I think the character is written to be too mature and confident for a nine year old.

I think it’s interesting how most reviewers treat it as a given when dealing with stories of human created inorganic life forms that they aren’t “real” and that any scenes depicting them experiencing emotions must be viewed with skepticism. If you’re inclined to see David as a sentient being whose hopes, fears, and

My tastes for this sort of thing are not infinitely malleable, but I’ve long ago made my peace with The Simpsons’ floating time line and endless back story retcons. I thought this was a fun one. Seeing Marge, Homer, and the rest of Springfield as young and carefree DINKs was not something I knew I needed, but turns

I generally like reading about how things work, but this column seems to have gotten mired in prosaic etiquette questions with the occasional bout of class warfare. Perhaps the scope of the feature could be expanded (with additional experts) to address a broader range of questions about the whys and wherefores of the

Is carbonate the right word when the gas in question is N2 rather than CO2?

I taught middle school math for 18 years, so I’ve seen Stand and Deliver at least 20 times. It’s a good movie, one of my favorites, but I still chafe at the way it presents Escalante as a miracle worker. It took him years to achieve the results he did - nobody went from apple fractions to integration by parts
