Isn’t the base Destiny 2 game free now?

I think the core game of Destiny 2 is free-to-play, right? I would assume you transfer over the digital expansions, download the base game for free off the PS Store, and you’d be good to go.

This is possibly a dumb question. If I have physical games on PS4, will the digital only PS5 recognize that I own them and let me download digital versions for backwards compatibility?
