Marijuana is a racist slur toward Mexicans, blacks and hippies and has been since the turn of the 20th century. It was created to categorize these three groups as socially inferior people. Just because the general public doesn’t understand the historical reference doesn’t mean that it’s origin isn’t racist.

Think of it this way, cannabis was named by scientists while marijuana was named by racists.
