While I absolutely agree with everything you said in this article, it doesn’t help when the game developers themselves blame the engine when things go wrong. See, for example, the Kotaku post-mortem articles about Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Reminds me of my first foray into being a dungeon master. Started out the entire party with amnesia in a dungeon with tons of locked doors and only one path forward. It was TERRIBLE. Everyone hated it and nearly 20 years later, I am still embarrassed of it to this day.
