I loved VR5 but it made little sense back then to me, the VR stuff and  even less now. That episode of Nowhere Man is hard to watch tooo sometimes  but you have to watch and approach these with a healthier sense of suspension of disbelief.

I had them both though I had Genesis first. Both were great systems though I wish the Sega 6 button controller became the evolutionary lead in game control designs rather than the snes, I like having the 6 buttons on top. It certainly implies Hartnell was operating on a plan here. My thought are that he or the time lords might have wiped his mind after he did it but it was timed to return to him at a later date.
