Cool, thanks! My poor protagonist already got wiped out by an errant attack on Floor 2 of Naoto’s dungeon, so this feels like it may be a slog... As for character leveling, that’s great. I always fear exactly the FFVI scenario you describe, but I’ve sidelined Yosuke and Chie pretty hard the last two dungeons.

This weekend I’m playing:

Woo! I’m excited to pick up Dark Souls when it eventually launches on Switch, assuming the port is good. Given the series’ Zelda influences, I would’ve thought 60fps didn’t matter much, but playing DS2 and DS3 at 60 on PC felt so much better; I’m still willing to take the hit to FPS for a portable version, of course.

I’m sad to hear this - I loved your articles on the site and your time on Fave This. Good luck in your future work!!

My favorite arcade game is either (a) Marvel vs. Capcom 2 or (b) House of the Dead 2. Those two couldn’t be more different, but you could really while away the hours playing either. Oh oh oh, alternately (c) Ocean Hunter. That one never even made it to consoles!

This week I’m playing Flinthook, trying to take down the very challenging second boss; I’ve got the series of levels down, but it’s hard to dodge the boss’s projectile attacks. I also hit Level 36 in Final Fantasy XIV after completing a raid to reclaim a goblin village from some huge dragon bird; things got hairy when

As a hopelessly out of touch 30-year-old, I had no idea what y’all were talking about with the Fortnite dances (though I enjoyed the conversation). Then I visited my wife’s family for Mother’s Day and all of our nieces and nephews were doing that game’s dance moves and this podcast came rushing back. Kudos for having

WHAT?! Now I feel like a dummy for buying a big Vita proprietary card. Eh, at least if that dies someday (after the proprietary cards are no longer manufactured) I can pick up one of these adapters. Thanks for the tip!

I don’t know if you’ve played Flinthook yet, but it’s even better than its pre-release coverage suggested. Excellent indie game, from the tight paltforming mechanics to the gorgeous pixel animation.

That’s a bummer. I just picked one up (despite owning a Switch!) a couple months ago to be my little JRPG machine. Shame about those wretched memory cards, eh?

Would you believe - I actually play my new PS4 Pro at least 40% in Vita Remote Play. Switch is probably 75% handheld for me. I just don’t quite feel like sitting by the TV wearing my glasses when I could be chilling on the couch.

This feels like something the game should shout at you in capital letters.

Funny enough, I think it was only mildly discussed... over there. My reaction was pretty ambivalent.

I never even realized this!! I’d switch between swords trying to remember which was which and which hurt which enemy, when the game had already pre-selected the right one. Argh.

Thank you for the pun, and enjoy yourself in Sea of Thieves!

That’s a pretty funny visual glitch.

I should plan another AV Club Salmon Run. Maybe in a couple weeks.

Be careful, this sounds like how my playthrough spiraled into quitting. I just got so overwhelmed by how much there was to remember that I moved on to something that didn’t feel like homework :)

At least now you know that today, like every day, will be great.

I feel like I never quite got the combat from Nier: Automata. I was good at the bullet-hell sections, but the standard third-person fights I kind of blundered my way through. (I’m not convinced the game’s combat is that good, but I may just be resentful). Definitely set it to easy, though, since the world-building and
