I’d feel about as bad about doing this to a 3 as I feel about scraping the bloatware off my Samsung Galaxy and loading up LineageOS.

I don’t know, as I make twice that and didnt finish college. Although, my employer has a internship program and I would have to think after they graduate they make at least that.
I guess depends where you live. $60k is not an unusually high paying first big boy job where I live.
Right, but that’s not the majority of graduates. I looked it up and the average was $50,944 in 2018.
Difference here is that the distinction between models is literally just a few lines of code, which they have added. It wouldn’t be a “terrible short sighted” mod if it weren’t for Tesla’s reaction to it.
Counterpoint,
Given Tesla’s recent stance, which is in line with every shitty, anti-consumer post-purchase monetization, dick-headed Silicon Valley bullshit practice I see in my data center. . .
Fuck. Them. Raw.

Unfortunately it is not how the future is heading. Instead of ownership, it becomes licensing. Remember the thing about music CDs back in a day? That we own the medium, but not the content? Software as a service is currently very popular and hardware as service is getting traction.
Often the CPU thing is a result of binning though, so one or both of said cores were defective, making it a perfectly fine 6-core chip.
How many people actually land a $60k job right out of college these days? I have a feeling it’s not the majority.
What is Musk’s stance on repairability and the right for owners to access and change the functions of these expensive cars? I know Tesla has already gotten caught removing options from third-party-sold cars, so I figure they’re not exactly pro-, but are they going full on John Deere with it? If so, I assume these…
Tesla is moving to a subscription model for enabling software add ons. That’s one way for them to continue making money from cars they have already sold (even from 2nd, 3rd owners, etc.). Many of the performance tweaks are software based, so I can see “performance” becoming a $x/month option.
See, that’s the bullshit I never want to deal with.
Who had Tesla money and can’t afford to buy the real mod? I bet Elon is just waiting for enough people to do these unauthorized factory mods so he can brick them all at once for a Twitter rant.
Why the fuck else do you think I’m excited for GT7?
As somebody who once worked for Getrag, you’re absolutely dead wrong. Are you too stupid to research the Twin Turbo Supra transmission, which by the way still holds in record breaking Supras around the world. Or did you forget that almost all BMWs STILL use Getrag DCTs and manuals. Also, Ferrari 458 Italia, AMG GTS,…
My STI 6speed is only shitty when its really cold out, like minus 15-20 F. Otherwise its a joy
It is embarrassing that US manufacturers won’t buy a decent transmission.
Helicopters use “autorotation” for engine failures. This is where the rotor decouples from the engine and allowed to spin freely
So, dear Jalopnik ‘conservatives’: tell me again why we shouldn’t defund all the Police, then build a completely new structure to replace it?
