Famously the son of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow
He looks like Sinatra.
Thank you, will check it out. If not, it is still a great benefit for those lucky enough to have access...
Kanopy is available through about 4000 libraries across the US (about 2500 university libraries, 1500 public libraries), so it’s great for a lot of the country and also parts of Australia. There are a couple of competing/different services that you can find in additional libraries. Best to check the website of…
Well, that’s great if you live in NY or Brooklyn. While it’s sad that it’s not much good for the rest of the country, I will point out that many public libraries do offer some interesting and useful online resources ebooks, audio books among a few. The Criterion Collection just isn’t one of them.
“Aside from birth, the only other thing that is guaranteed to happen to every single person on the planet is death.” Aside from birth? Birth is not guaranteed! There are stillborns you know! /end-rant
Hospital employee here. For God’s sake, your family will all die some day. Don’t try to keep their body alive artificially forever while you pray for a miracle that isn’t coming. It’s CRUEL! If you wouldn’t want to live that way, don’t force your parents to “live” that way. Allow them to die with dignity.
Much like Dr. Tyson, I can think of no greater honor than releasing my energy (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, etc. not spiritual energy) back into the universe. My body can be used to continue this thing, giving back after taking for a whole lifetime, however long that may be.
I might be in the minority then that I actually look forward to the uninterrupted vacation time.
The thing that utterly resolved my fear of death was something Penn Jillette said. I can’t find the quote, but the essence was the he isn’t any more afraid of the time after his death than he is of the time before his birth. That’s life. You don’t exist for basically forever, you exist for a brief flash, and then you…
THIS - pain is so much scarier than death.
I’ve told my wife that I want to be cremated and flushed - although the flushing is most likely illeagal - disposal of the ashes in whatever manner is cheapest (tossed with the trash?) is my preference.
There’s another company that will turn your remains into a tree. Being a willow sounds nice, especially if I end up with grandkids. ;)
There are already several U.S. states (including Oregon, California and Vermont) where “death with dignity” is legal. I’m all for it!
Might not be for everyone, but it’s worth pointing out that psychedelics, especially psilocybin, can do a lot to help people get over existential dread and fear of death. There is active promising research into the therapeutic use of psilocybin in terminal cancer patients, to address exactly this.
Really interesting article. Thanks for posting it.
Well good morning to you too, Life Hacker.
I had a near-death experience a decade ago where I thought for certain I was about to die, and had a minute even to think about it, and it didn’t really bother me. Since then, death doesn’t scare me at all. My only concern is that I hope euthanasia is legal when the time comes so that I can ensure that it will be…
Good advice. I have it in my will that my ashes be sent to Life Gem to make me into a man-made diamond. This way I will literally be a Crystal after death. The pun makes me giggle and helps me deal with the whole death thing.
