Hogwarts was a mediocre game that had inflated reviews because many people just wanted an HP game where they could make their own character and be a Hogwarts student. Yeah, I guess it delivered on that for those people, but from an actual game design perspective, it was ridiculously mediocre and shallow and is by no

Regardless of the controversy, Hogwarts was a pretty mediocre game and it sold because of the IP it was attached to. To imply that it was “snubbed” for awards is to forget that awards are for the actual game delivered, not for the marketing campaign or sales quantity.

It wasn’t misunderstood and there wasn’t any hidden

Octopath Traveller 2.

I feel like they take too much of a “checklist” approach sometimes, and are also averse to non-western games.

I mean technically I doubt there’s anything disallowing an indie game from being GotY but realistically yeah it’s never going to happen. Imagine the uproar from out-of-touch fanboys if a pixel game or 5-hour puzzle game won GotY. The VGA doesn’t want that.

Are you claiming Super Mario RPG is not and RPG? I agree that it doesn’t deserve to be nominated as it is a remake and I think doesn’t qualify due to release date but it is definitely a JRPG. But yes Advance Wars is a non rpg built upon the design of an SRPG.

I have no idea what you are talking about the game uses mostly the same map and graphics but it plays completely differently. The building elements of the game may not have been your cup of tea but are some robust and complicated that the game is sort of a masterclass in design.

sooooooo then Spiderman 2 shouldn’t be on the list either by that logic.

“Once you get bored of the sandbox stuff” - legitimately haven’t and still find things to fuck around with after all this time and have trouble putting it down once I start playing - Spiderman 2 hasn’t done the same for me

Not only do I think Starfield was NOT snubbed, I’d argue there were much better options than it for best RPG... like the Advance Wars and Super Mario RPG remakes to name the first to come to mind...

I always figured every serious chess player had a buttplug in just to feel alive while sitting there for days on end.

2 funny things

Bungie’s biggest problem (aside from apparently not giving a shit about their employees) is that Destiny is almost impossible to jump into if you’re new or been away for a while.

Some people just love the taste of boot leather and polish, and will say or do anything in the distant hopes that Daddy CEO will let them partake one day.

That might have at least made this list funny if he left it out completely.

I literally don’t understand why people enjoy The Social Network. It’s barely even a story, let alone a compelling or well told one.

Interesting, considering the author of the book also wrote the screenplay and worked very closely with Fincher thoughout.  Personally, I thought it was a brilliant adaptation.

FYI to everyone commenting about why Fight Club was placed where it was - it’s for engagement and it’s working

“Fox didn’t care what happened in Alien 3 as long as the film came out. The production was so rife with studio meddling...”

I don’t disagree with the criticisms about “The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo”, but the issues come mainly already in the novel.

I can live with Zodiac being #1 as I quite enjoy the movie, but there is no way Mank, Panic Room and Gone Girl are better movies than Fight Club or Seven.
