The Baja Bug and buggy builders in SoCal used to take them off the busses, rotate them to horizontal, and use them for a little longer wheelbase.
They increase unsprung weight and moment of inertia on your wheels. I can’t imagine the CG gains would be worth it.
I fear I may have done the same with my first Crown Vic. I thought for sure that 3rd and 4th were slipping. After I sold it for $500, I found out there was a service bulletin (or recall? Can’t remember...) for the torque converter, because it wouldn’t lock properly and gave symptoms similar to a slipping…
Rescued a badly degraded almost not running BMW E21. Cleaned it up and started trying to diagnose a smokey, rough running M10 with no power that wouldn’t idle.

I was (and still am) much more confident in backing a 102" wide trailer into a 106" dock (Tamko) than I am backing my Corolla into a standard parking space.
