HALF A CHORE. The worst.

My conservative little cousin says he will move to Canada if Hill wins. I was like, dude, really? Conservative bastion of misogyny, Canada?

I highly doubt the cops came by and ticketed her without some sort of bias against her. Nobody short of health code inspectors drives by, sees a lady feeding the homeless, and instantly goes “oh, I bet she doesn’t have her permits, let’s go check on that!” Police are well versed in the law, sure, but probably don’t

I mean, I think it has to do with the idea that if your pain doesn’t have a physical cause, it’s not real. If your pain has a psychological cause, rather than a physical one, I think a lot of people take that to mean that the pain is all in the sufferer’s head—that they’re essentially making it up.

What’s really interesting is how scientists are now considering the possibility that diseases such as depression and even schizophrenia could have viral origins. Slowly but surely the medical field is realising that mental and physical illness is one and the same, but the stigma with mental illness is slowing that

Antidepressants are used in treatment of chronic pain and GI issues, that knowledge sometimes helps people to feel more open to trying them. Also we’re starting to uncover evidence that fibromyalgia falls under the umbrella of pathos we don’t understand but that do have a biological basis.

And we even know that serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine play a role in many mental illnesses, and also are key neurotransmitters in inhibiting pain in a normally functioning nervous system. Hence why depression can physically make you hurt, and why some antidepressants are used in treating all kinds of chronic

It’s really difficult. My anxiety manifests with a LOT of physical symptoms. I’ve made four ER trips in the past five years with symptoms that felt real enough to me but were all likely caused by my anxiety. I am now working with my doctor and taking medication, but it’s so hard to distinguish when you’re in the thick

I agree, even if the cause is mental, aren’t the effect still actually physical? All pain, sound, vision, etc. is actually produced by your brain. The schizophrenic does actually hear the voices because they come from the part of the brain that processes sound.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 25 years ago by a neurologist. But because 75% of diagnosed cases are of women, there are a lot of doctors who claim it’s not real.

And doctors are much more likely to treat women’s complaints as self-induced/mental illness/stress/not really real.

1,000x this. The pain of mental illness can be incapacitating, all the more so because by its nature it impedes the desire of the sufferer to get better, by robbing agency.

I have fibromyalgia. Anti-depressants did nothing for me, though they help others. My pain is managed by muscle relaxers, lyrica and a sleeping pill for the insomnia. Hopefully your family member has both a rheumatologist and a pain management doctor. Many people who live in constant pain have depression because

But who determines what is a psychosomatic disease? Is fibromyalgia considered psychosomatic? Or could some diseases just be outside of current doctors scope of study? We don’t know how a person gets autism or why but we know it exists as an actual disorder not psychosomatic.

It’s alright. I got divorced and things got better. No thanks to my PCP or therapist. And I’m currently not being treated by either. Trying to find someone who CARES is fucking hard.

A lot of that comes from doctors themselves. I once had a doctor tell me that my body’s bad response to a procedure was ‘psychological’ and gave me the brush off. My vagina had swelled shut. So sure I made that happen with my mind.

*Uh...what are you doing?

I didn't say anything about debris. Please look at the rest of this thread. This topic has become exceedingly tedious for me. I'll summarize one more time:

1) It is against the laws of the universe for anything with mass to ever beat a light beam in a race. It is not allowed. It cannot be done. Any technology

Yes, I understand. My point is that this technology achieves "faster than light travel" by moving everything, including light, with the same trick...therefore nothing need ever exceed the speed of light. If a ship arrives at Proxima Centauri in weeks, clearly it "traveled" faster than light, even though it didn't
