The way it was announced makes it seem like it could be released outside of the Switch Online subscription, but maybe not. 

Not mentioned here but it will also launch on gamepass.

I don’t care about this game, but this is the shit we’re talking about when we complain about always-online requirements that stans always handwave away with trite lines like “you’re always connected to the internet anyway.”

I’m no fan of EA either but I’m honestly feeling Square is worse at this point. If it’s not a big mainline title like Final Fantasy, Square won’t even support it through marketing before it murders it for not reaching their impossible expectations. EA will atleast somewhat try to market their games before…

I’m just going to put this out there, Square are not a good publisher. They really cannibalise their studios and have unrealistic performance expectations. They really don’t support their teams and with the exception of a handful of games they don’t seem to care about properties.

There’s an alternate timeline where 33,000 more Floridians bothered to vote in 2018 and we never had to hear DeSantis’ name again. Instead there’s a legitimate concern that he could become America’s president-for-life within the decade.

I will be donating extra to AGDQ this year in light of this decision. Standing on your principals in spite of incurring costs and penalties is both selfless and admirable.

Microsoft used timed exclusives.

As much as I hate the push for exclusives as a consumer, the Playstation boss can get stuffed. They spent the entire PS4 cycle locking their ecosystem down as hard as possible so nobody could even play with people that owned the same game on other platforms, and they still maintain a strategy of pushing for PS…

And the response is always “well sure, Xbox is allowed to compete same as Sony, but not in a way that makes me actually want to get an Xbox!”

Not rocket science, it’s money and having enough influence to dictate trends for your own company. 

At a certain point we really need to stop saying that nearly three hundred million dollars is a “small” fortune. That’s a lot of money. It’s a lot of money for you, it’s a lot of money for me, it’s even a lot of money to invest in a game company.  There are very few instances where $300m is not a sizable fortune. 

Diversification of Chinese assets. Makes it harder to sanction them later when they’re in most industries at an ownership level. It also makes sense if China thinks gaming is the future and they’re taking the long on transnational gaming companies that aren’t associated with the CCCP directly.
