But “the public” does not actually influence a burgeoning actor’s career NEARLY as much as casting agents. And they are *very* influenced by nepotism.

Yeah man I’m also only talking about actors. But you for some reason took issue with my phrasing of actors related to other previous actors. And made it out as if you only wanted to discuss an actor who was the direct son or daughter of another actor. Nieces and Nephews and cousins exist too. And grandchildren.
My sister works in the business, and nepotism is very much alive and thriving in the industry.
Sorry I was having the conversation about nepotism in Hollywood. Nepotism doesn’t refer to only being the direct child of someone else in the industry.
“The system is definitely a meritocracy” he said from the comments section, his biggest available soapbox.
Getting in the door -is- the hard part though.
The insane amount of actors who just so happen to be related to other previous actors strongly disagrees with you.
The “nepo baby” thing is ludicrous. All having famous parents gets you is a foot in the door, and in occasional extreme cases (I’m looking at you, Will “Slapsbury” Smith) projects built around someone who’s just not really that talented. The public does not generally care that Random Actor is the child of Famous…
More than casually and not for the first time. But I eagerly await the fans who will come tell me (Jewish) why it either wasn’t offensive or why it’s ok for Chappelle to do it.
Ahh yes, “thought provoking,” that thought being “why are we letting people who are making ‘I do hate speech’ their entire schtick host this show?”
Oh good, he managed to be casually antisemitic while decrying antisemitism.
The big thing is he became an icon in the black community and it blew up way beyond just him being a comic character.

For every series HBO has killed prior to a planned conclusion, they’ve greenlit several more seasons of expensive shows whose low ratings didn’t really justify the order, provided they were generating awards and buzz. HBO basically invented the planned series finale. Network shows used to just run until they were…
Rome was cancelled because the BBC were a major funder of it and pulled out.
Not many TV series were and are on Deadwood’s level, to be honest.
Westworld on its best day wasn’t on Deadwood’s level.
As others have mentioned, it’s an expensive show with little buzz and super low ratings. I’m honestly surprised it got a fourth season.
Abrupt? Nah. The high cost and no buzz and zero ratings means that it was pretty inevitable that the new management especially was gonna cancel this show. And with the way season 4 ended by literally everyone including almost all the main cast dying, one gets the sense that the writers knew it was coming.
