Baffled to the reaction from readers who don’t know how adaptations – especially one as unfilmable as Foundation – work.

can we talk about this instead?

Man, this whole thing just feels like a major studio desperately trying to keep a concluded franchise going because they’ve got nothing else. Even if Rowling wasn’t a raving bigot, it would still come off as pathetic on multiple levels. The story ended a decade and a half ago, guys. There are kids in high school who

Mark Hamill never had to work again unless he wanted to, he got free admission for life to SDCC, and he was offered jobs to voice his favorite characters while hanging out at home in his pajamas. He is the High Nerd King whose career all lesser nerds aspire to.

The fucking Deathly Hallows tattoos...

As someone who grew up with the books, grew up with the films there’s nothing I find less appealing than my generation’s still absurd attachment to this stuff.

Kind of like how after Star Wars, Harrison Ford became one of Hollywood’s major box office draws, Carrie Fisher became a successful, respected playwright and script-doctor, and Mark Hamill… voiced some cartoon characters (this would be before people actually realized how good Batman: The Animated Series was).

Because it’s hers. That’s the simple answer. She created it, it’s her intellectual property, she owns the rights to it, and she’s still alive. Until she sells her rights in entirety or dies, nothing — nothing — happens in Harry Potterland without either JK Rowling’s blessing or JK Rowling getting a big fat check out

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Rowling still control the rights to her story (much like George Lucas did for Star Wars before selling to Disney)? I was under the impression that we won’t be seeing other authors/screenwriters take a shot because SHE wouldn’t allow anyone else to take creative control over the

That’s not exactly feasible since she still gets royalties from the TERF Wizard Movies.

woof, *any* excuse to try and make a slideshow happen.

These are awful.

Because the first outting with a Rowlingless Potter story was The Cursed Child. Not exactly a good first step.

The first movie took a seemingly simple plot and built an entire world around it without it ever feeling like there was an overt amount of exposition. And it had some really great action sets that were well written and shot really well.

By...not watching it?

I love Nick Offerman, but given this is an HBO joint, if ever there was a role I would assume they could just give to the original actor from the game, it’d be Deadwood’s own W. Earl Brown.

I want this movie to bomb, and bomb big. I don’t want the idea of redoing Hollywood classics becomes a thing, as if old Hollywood movies are just another IP to drain all the fun out of.

I’m sure this is well made because it’s Spielberg doing something he’s passionate about but I can’t imagine a less interesting project than a remake of West Side Story.  Hopefully whoever the target audience is enjoys it, but I’ll definitely pass.

Yeah, I’m a leftist and these kinds of self-proclaimed leftists absolutely do not jibe with the values of that philosophy. Dirtbag leftists are basically just Republican edgelords who are too embarrassed to actually associate with Republicans.

If you’re going to write a review maybe do a quick web search on the director first? Madeline Quinn does not co-host Red Scare. I knew the bar was significantly lowered after the Kinja-pocalypse but Jesus Christ.

Am I out of touch because kids don’t want to see a historical epic based on an obscure French incident set against the backdrop of Charles VI and the Caroline War?
