It seems really pricey though. Based on the specs, the base model should be possible to make for about 1000 bucks. In fact, I could just swap my current GPU/CPU for the i5 4590 and the GTX 760 for €400 and be done at about that price. but with a spare CPU/GPU.

Yeah, uh, making content takes time. First time I saw anything of this game, it was just the quake level. You either make one level properly and then make another level, or you show a trailer with a dozen levels just greyboxed out and looking like shit.

I think the point is that before it's tested on humans you need to test on animals, which have totally different hormonal balances anyway. The skip from mouse to human is much larger than the one from female to male.
