It’s also self-serving in many ways. A movie about this man this could be made with a much smaller budget and, if the actors were great and the critics got behind it, be enough of a hit to cover it’s costs while raising awareness.

This is the most tired and easily debunked excuse ever but there’s always one or two idiots who try to float it in the comments every. single. time.
Not every role is for every actor and this is pretty widely acknowledged and not all that controversial, unless you want to be purposefully obtuse about it. Selma wouldn’t really have been the same movie with Brad Pitt playing MLK now would it? I, Tonya woulda been kinda weird with Leonardo Dicaprio playing Tonya…
Yes. Pointing to how “things have always been done” doesn’t mean they were the right thing to do morally or-since that’s what really matters in Hollywood-financially.
Uh. I think people would FLOCK to the movie if they cast a trans actor. You clearly underestimate the buying power of the LGBTQIA community.
So, that essentially creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. Productions won’t hire minority actors because pretty much all of them aren’t A-list. Minority actors can’t become A-list because A-list productions won’t hire them. Rinse and repeat.
OMG! I thought I was the only that found her acting to be less than great.
Yeah, yeah, yeah but Ghost in the Shell bombed so while your argument might explain why this is sometimes done it doesn’t explain why Johansson and Sanders are being given more money to burn by miscasting a lead role...again.
Scarlett has always come across as totally thoughtless and self-absorbed. Remember when she was more concerned about Dylan Farrow setting off famous actresses’ google alerts than with the actual substance of her child sexual abuse accusations against Woody Allen? Ugh.
Is it because she’s a bad actress so feels she has to take any role offered to her?
And anyone who tries to pull the “movies are expensive; they need a big name” bs is just an enabler of bad people and Hollywood would still be prevelant with black and yellow face if this bs idea was actually valid and made sense.
“Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment.”
I used to like Scarlett but she makes it so difficult. Just listen to criticism and respond thoughtfully. People may even think you’re a better person for it. Imagine that!
Perfect the Resting “excuse you?” Face? The just “ugh, did you really” kind of expression. I’m sorry if you’re in an area where mild public shame won’t deter people. :(
I just saw an ad for a queer swim night at the local hot spot for swimming near me (Barton springs, in Austin). It made me think of your question. Maybe there is something like that in your area. I imagine location is a huge factor.
And, historically, they’re correct in the assumption that they can get away with it.
how to get white people to stop being assholes and calling the cops on folks of color doing basically anything in a public space?
So much this - even “good” dealerships get a little confused when I tell them right up front I don’t care what the payment is (and I don’t). At all. I can make 1 payment or I can make 72, the bottom line price is all I care about, and if you can beat my bank’s financing rate go right ahead. With BMW and VW I have done…
I had a friend that was a miser. Major league miser. Saved and paid cash for everything. He always had problems in car dealerships. They would quote him a car at cost and assume they were going to make money on the financing. He would show up with cash and get them all confused and messed up. Arguments would erupt,…
When it comes to car dealerships, never attribute to stupidity that which is adequately explained by malice. They play dumb in your favor exactly 0% of the time.
