I also loved that it wasn’t mentioned until 2 weeks after the actual abortion happened and even then only in the context of a mysterious medical bill. No need to show Xo angsting over it or being dramatic in any way. It happened at some point and she moved on.

That was quite possibly the most low-key mention of an abortion I’ve ever seen on a screen. It’s such a good response to this stupid notion that all women who have abortions are scarred for life — as if guilt and suffering are the price you must pay for having done such a thing, even if you wanted or needed it.

The problem seems to be there is little to no actual attempt at rehabilitation. If prison is just punishment it becomes more necessary to keep certain violent criminals even ones who haven’t murdered yet in prison for life. Which should not be what we are aiming for.
