I’m not going to lie, Jalopnik membership not withstanding, I would rather an amateur auto shop than nosy religious zealot assholes any day. It really doesn’t matter what you are into, those are the kinds of people that make neighborhoods awful and negatively impact property values long-term.

Community typically grows

I stand corrected on that.

Coal only made up 30% of the U.S. Electric power grid in 2016. Natural Gas has passed it at 33% and renewables are gaining. Nuclear is 20%. The narrative about electric cars really being coal powered is becoming less true.

Don’t sleep in. As a matter of fact, I get up even earlier than when I usually do for work. Then your weekend doesn’t just seem longer, it is longer. Plus, don’t do the usual stuff on weekends, stuff like grocery shopping, cutting the grass, you know, chores. It’s so mundane and robot like. Go to stores (not grocery),

Show me a communist leader that earned one fifth of thier medals.

People with real achievements and skills tend not to boast about it. They let their work speak for itself. Talentless wannabes, on the other hand...

SecDef Mattis and replacement for the awful Flynn, H. R. McMaster are widely respected in the military. They are both apparently not Trumps favorite people though. Those are the only two that I can point to that I don’t want to tar and feather.

“These statues aren’t about slavery or racism, they are about heritage and regional pride.”

You know if he did anything about it (say fighting back with the kid who punched him) he’d be suspended, out for two weeks, and on thin ice. Those other kids get a fucking counselor to determine if they were being mean. Ugh.

Literally the type of response I was trying to avoid. The article was framed as this being a black, female problem and I wanted to reach out, human being to human being, and say that I felt her pain, despite not filling either qualification. It felt dishonest to pretend I did, and I even put a nice, pretty disclaimer

Yeah, that is the problem. I don’t think he gives a damn about what his powers are or what powers are supposed to belong to Congress. He wants to do it, so he will. And if the courts block him, he’ll just insult the judge.

I think the idea is that the “troublesome” Turkish Kurds would have the option to relocate to a free Kurdistan, while the Turkish Kurds who don’t really support a resistance movement would be content to stay in Turkey under Turkish rule.

I believe supporting women’s sports benefits the society at large because it increases girls’ participation, which is good for their bodies and minds and self-worth.

People aren’t paid just by how much money they generate, but by how valuable they are to their employers. If USA Hockey wants to continue winning medals, it’s gonna cost them more.

What’s funny is that, by definition, the Standing Rock protesters CAN’T commit terrorism. Terrorism is INDISCRIMINATE. Even if the pipeline was being sabotaged, or police vehicles set aflame, that’s still TARGETED (at the corporations in charge of the pipelines, and at government forces). There is no threat to

Oh, they will roll the tanks. Trump already wanted them for the inauguration and the miltary had to tell him it wasn’t good optics. However, Trump is not running this show it is Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller.

This kind of comment is why people who resent coastal “elites” actually have a case. Don’t forget that Trump only got 52% of the vote here... which means that about half of Texas voters wanted someone else. Don’t forget that it was a Texan who signed into law Medicaid, Medicare, the VRA, and the CRA. Don’t forget

I grew up in Texas and Oklahoma. Oklahoma is everything you think Texas is, only more so. Texas has large metropolitan, cosmopolitan cities with many decent people who live in them. Gerrymandering has silenced progressive Texans, and it’s awful.

Who gets killed so we can provide government services? Lots of people die for lack of services, I’m no commie, but police, roads, infrastructure military are all services I couldn’t do without.

Huh. Sounds like your neighbor was the one who needed some grass.
