I don’t care how much ‘faster’ paddle shifters might be than a manual transmission. No automatic can offer the kind of intimate connection with a car that rowing your own gears can. A manual is just more fun, and isn’t that what a sports car is supposed to be all about? The fun of driving?

Wait, they’re bringing the Supra back?  How did I not hear about this?!

but modern cars aren’t built for enthusiasts or the DIY guy

Does Tesla have a Chicago design department ?

Have someone stand in front of an autonomous car when it is stopped. Have two others jack it up and steal the wheels.

Suzuki seem to be doing fine, doing what they are good at. Small, cheap and honest cars and a selection of off roaders of varying ability. Not chasing a market they don’t have the models for is a sensible choice.

Silly... It'll be called the 3000GT. The "GT" will be bastardized to stand for "great truck", or some such bullsh*t. Maybe they'll modernize the name to "3KGT", or something equally as stupid as "Eclipsecross".

Ironically, these autonomous features imply the ability to pay less attention to driving, yet in reality require MORE attention from the driver than just driving manually. Automakers need to begin with the assumption that there will be NO training classes for customers to sit through, they simply won’t do it. I sold

I hope you’re going to delve more into this Aaron. I’ve been squawking about this on articles relating to crashes regarding “self driving vehicles”. There is a serious misconception about what entails operation of an aircrafts Autopilot system and thus it’s being applied to Joe publics vehicle.

Also, planes don’t typically have to avoid pedestrians in the air.

Planes also have ground control constantly talking to them and a team of people constantly monitoring their positions.

So my takeaway is that automation in cars (something partially designed to compensate for our pitiful lack of driver training) really requires a whole new and other set of training to be used safely.

New airliners, business jets, and military airplanes have sophisticated automation. The single engine GA fleet (which most directly compares to private car ownership) is mostly over 40 years old, and many of those airplanes do not even have an autopilot.

You want to make driving safer? Take your ear buds out, put the phone down, and pay attention.

Also planes aren’t typically flying inches from eachother.

Wait, you mean cars need automated safety systems like the ones on planes that just killed a bunch of innocent people because of lacking training (among other factors)? They were professionals too, you expect regular people on the street to handle the automation of their cars? They can’t even handle the systems we

Planes have routine, scheduled, and mandatory maintenance which is strictly enforced. The same cannot be said for cars. I can only see autonomy taking over meaning the death of private ownership.

Tesla is going to get it’s ass eaten in the insurance market.

They lost 6 times as much money this quarter as they made in profit last quarter and they only made around $123 million in profit. Thats not how you run a business...Hey Elon how about instead of making tons of crazy promises over and over to try and distract people from your numbers (like those 2016 promises). How
