Seriously. The old EU was 99.9% SHIT. Even as a child that read some of the books I never actually considered them part of the Star Wars story. Even shadows of the empire, arguably the best EU novel

The force awakens isn't the greatest movie ever but it was a home run for most Star Wars fans. After surviving the prequels, the hope for the future has never been brighter. I swear to god, if they butcher episodes 8 and/or 9, I will riot in the streets.

I can't imagine in anyway that the first order allows troops to get comfy and form friendships. I doubt finn has any remorse for killing those troopers in order to escape. He just separates himself from a gang of murderers, and in all likely hood he was about to be terminated because he did not fire on any civilians…
