It blows my mind that people just don’t get this. You have to compare your effective tax rate, or your tax due lines. Using refunds to compare the effects of the tax bill by these “news” organizations is ignorant at best, and propaganda at worst.

My tax return is about the same.  My tax BILL went down $4,000.  You simply can not use the return to guage whether this helped you or not.   Compare your tax due from 2017 to 2018 to make a comparison.

Anyone who is using tax RETURNS to gauge whether the tax cut is lowering peoples taxes is going so with bunk and irrelevant information. You need to wait until numbers on peoples TAX BILL comes out. The refunds were going to go down, because the IRS adjusted withholdings.
