Yeah, this whole thing is BS. They can’t even prove she was physically present at the time the statue was taken down, since there was something like an 8 hour difference.

It’s really no surprise that Bill went from being a keynote speaker for an entire day of the convention to just having a few minutes outside of prime time.

Yeah, I loved the whole notion of exploring the tensions between the creator and the art they create, not just in examining things like Lovecraft’s own racism, but things like the smaller less immediately explicit stuff such as John Carter of the Barsoom novels being a Confederate, etc. Definitely worth

Interestingly enough, the book that this originated from, and this series itself, are in large part a reflection on that very tension you speak of - the tension between interest in/liking a work, and said work having a racist (or otherwise problematic) creator.

Especially when you consider that part of the reason for 2 is because Trump and his cronies did everything they could to engage in a coverup. Roger Stone was convicted for it, but Trump intervened to prevent him from seeing any jail time for it.

While that’s fair, let’s not kid ourselves into thinking that Republicans don’t constitute the lions share when it comes to racist politicians in the Age of Trump.

He’s the end result of decades spent demonizing the opposition and stoking prejudices. His supporters do not care what he does, as long as he sticks it to the other side, even to the point that it’s threatening to kill them.

On this general topic, I’d definitely recommend a watch of Lovecraft Country on HBO, which (among other things) explores the notion of enjoying a work even while recognizing that it came from an artist who was a complete and blatant racist (Lovecraft in that case).

It would be great if people could arrange to play only with like minded/polite/friendly/whatever sorts. Used to be in the days of player-run servers you could establish such a community, but unfortunately, the drive from gaming companies seems to be towards this model of forced game-wide community on company-run

Agreed, though at 6.5k it’s not likely to go too much lower, at least not in semidecent condition.

Possibly, but I’ve also read stories about people facing separation due to the pandemic. I would absolutely confirm that you can cross before you leave - it would be completely miserable to drive to the border from Texas, only to get turned away.

Did you even bother to read my post?

Again I will ask, what is the alternative you are proposing that you think is so vastly superior? If it’s “Don’t get that vehicle in the first place” then no, you’re not addressing the question. We are talking about whether it is financially smarter, in the case of an expensive high-depreciation high-end luxury

See, that’s not what I’m getting at. Sure, anyone can spend way more money on cars than they ought to. My father was terrible about rolling over negative equity into new car loans, for instance, partly because he couldn’t find a compromise between what he wanted and what he needed in a car, that he could live with.

I remember reading a quote (not sure who it was originally by) that went something like:
“Politics isn’t like getting married. It’s like taking the bus. You’re not sitting around all day waiting for the one true perfect solution - if there isn’t one that gets you where you want, you take the one that gets you closest

So you’d suggest that I just pay the money up front, and hope I can sell the car for more than the difference when I hit 3 years or so? No, that’s stupid.

So once upon a time, the DHS Intelligence office put out a report warning about right-wing extremism. Some of you all may remember this, because the Republicans screaming bloody murder about it in the news. Heads rolled, people got forced to quit.

No, it says “I don’t want to eat the full depreciation on a car I’m only planning to have for a few years.”

OOK!

Depending on what you’re looking at, it may be way smarter than buying, especially when talking about high depreciation luxury type models.
