Normally I respect your posts and the freely given logic you use to support them.

I’m Hispanic, and if someone asks my ethnicity, I usually say Cuban/Brazilian. But if there was a course titled ‘The problem with Hispanics,’ you bet your ass I’m going to feel personally offended by it. Because Hispanic is a catch-all for Cuban, Brazilian, Mexican, Venezualan, Costa Rican, etc...

No white people didn’t invent us vs them. Us vs Them is part of all territorial mammals ingrained programming. ‘If you’re not part of my tribe, you’re a threat.’

So I can hate blackness or Islam as structural problems without hating Blacks or Muslims? I don’t think that reasoning would fly with any of those groups.

Why not name the course “Insitutional Racism” then? “Whiteness” is a trait people are born with. There is no problem with being white. Just like there is no problem with being born black or brown.   

I have a problem with the course’s name. If there was a class called the “The Problem of Blackness,” or “The Problem of Hispanics,” or “The Problem of Jewishness” this website would be up in arms. Being born a particular way isn’t a problem. Nor should it be treated as such.

No, historically the Republicans have not had a stranglehold on NC. McCrory is only the third Republican governor since 1901, and 2010 marked the first time Republicans controlled the state legislature since Reconstruction.
