I find that Neubauten is a band whose name conjures a sound that is quite unrepresentative of most of their catalogue. I mean, there really tends to be on or two "industrial" pounders per album and the rest is freakish noise or ambient weirdness. I do like Ende Neu a fair bit (I prefer The Garden to Stella Maris) but

Man, I like Ende Neu, but it was a pretty naff offering from the band that gave us Halber Mensch.

I decided to go through my collection and see what I had from 1996. It's mostly end-of-career stuff from artists with much better albums in their past. (Ride's Tarantula is them hitting absolute rock bottom)

Some mothers claim their stone passings were worse than their births.

I'm guessing it's more that humans who laughed at farts were more likely to survive than humans who got angry and violent at farts.

Yeah, he inspires no passion in me, but it's very good, thoughtful music, the likes of which is apparently absent from modern radio.

Man, I loved that episode.

I sensed it would be, and so I avoided it.

No, but it's something I've noticed in other films of his, like Hook.

Doom. The BFG9000.

I think Spielberg has this problem where the visionary naturalistic way he's directed in the past has people saying he makes things magical, but doesn't understand that TRYING to make things magical is cloying and contrived.

To be fair, that is a kind of brilliance.

My copy arrived yesterday. It's not as immediately arresting as the last two, primarily because it lacks pounding rhythms from the songs' outsets. It is, however, very, very good and Frankie M and the title track are monumental. This one is a grower and rewards repeat listening.

The first time hearing Swans' White Light from the Mouth of Infinity for me was like suddenly hearing music that had the excitement and brutality of rock and scale and majesty of classical. 20 years on I'm still a huge fan.

I did the same. Movie disc covers are pretty ugly with all the logos and so on.

To Bring You My Love is as good. You won't regret it.

The plus side is that it introduces younger readers to some good songs. I recall reading lots of positive appreciation from first-time listeners of The Fine Young Cannibals here when "She Drives Me Crazy" got slated.

I could just never get past the eyebrows.

"The teen witch rejects every tenant of the good adolescent girl"
Adolescent girls are landlords?

"The women either have to lose and struggle and endure to achieve agency,
or they wield it with the same selfishness and short-sightedness as the
men."
