Hang on, I thought The Smiths' "Shoplifters of the World Unite" was a thinly disguised gay pride song substituting "Shirtlifters" with "Shoplifters". "My only weakness is a listed crime/My only weakness is, well, never mind, never mind".

Lots of BDs go for $7 or so on sale. Flog your old discs if you've upgraded. If you have a decent size screen, Blu-ray's quality jump is revelatory. Witha projector it's a full-on cinema experience, minus the cellphone users and chatterboxes.

Incidentally, "judder" is the term for the uneven motion problems engendered converting 24fps to the 60Hz NTSC refresh rate using 3:2 pulldown. The inherent flickeriness of 24fps motion played at its native cadence is just called "strobing", and is a different effect.

A lot of systems have "Night Mode" or something similar to compress the dynamic range so it isn't too obnoxious.
