!!!! Thats the funniest saddest thing I’ve ver read. Profiled getting luggage in the airport. Man oh man.

I’m originally from VA (Hampton Roads area) and moved to Philly for school (Temple). When I first got there I was like, “why are yall all mean?!?! who hurt you?!” Its as if I was offending people by speaking to them or asking questions.

Oh I love that! Where can I learn more about this black TN farm?

Still my life now. People immediately say ‘you’re not from here’ condescendingly because I speak and say hi to everyone. But even in the south the major cities aren’t as cordial anymore. I live in NOLA now and people don’t speak that often surprisingly. But at least they don’t act surprised and they will say hi back

I had the rare opportunity to talk in depth with some Mandela fellows who were visiting America. The trip was to Whitney Plantation (idea of the school that was hosting them). That was eye opening. They thought most black people were in the northern cities (NY, Chicago, etc.). They thought black people were larger

Yes I went through a depression and lost a bunch of weight and when I saw people they would tell me I looked good and I was truly offended. It was very weird and made me realize how much our culture intrudes/judges on weight. Because the fact that people were mentioning it (I wasn’t what would be considered plus size

I understand you and you are not alone! I don’t know if I have body dysmorphia and have never been diagnosed as that but I have for the majority of my life have had a lot of disgust and anger with my body. I neglect my body in more ways than one. Not only with my terrible eating habits but I have spent my entire life

Something I see often that irks me is not so much jokes (and thats probably through clever selection of friends on social media on my part) but people acting like everyone is impacted equally. Yes this is a collective problem but not because everyone one is being impacted/targeted equally but because some people are

Agreed. Because Charlotte is liberal college town. I think police and school administration are the ones that showed where they stand. When they got the city to take down the monuments here in New Orleans, most of the Confederate defenders that came out here to sleep in front of the statue with a tent made of

I take your point. Yeah the way US expanded VA is midregion now. When colonies were founded the US only went down to Georgia so VA was closer to the bottom of country then. During this time what became the south was defined by the economy (agriculture), climate, and a distinctly different culture than Northeast/New

“the only thing southern about VA is that its dirty”. I didn’t read it as sarcastic at first but if it was then thats fine. Was not implying that VA is best or worst of anything, especially slave state, but responding to you saying VA just happens to be below mason dixon line, which I took to mean that the

I believe that cuz Charlottesville is supposed to be liberal and was a super majority for Hillary. But when I say they showed they azzes I mean the police and the state, and the school also.

So NC, SC, GA and FL aren’t either huh? They are on the east coast. I guess the only South that counts is deep south. Also strange that capital of Confederacy, co-conspirator of Jim Crow Massive Resistance, home of 2nd largest slave trade in the country, somehow is wiped from Southern history. I’ll go tell my mother,

How does one get out of the grey? I posted my kinja name on the VSB post where y’all said to comment with our names. What else I gotta do? Set me free! =)

I went to a rally in New Orleans after Alton Sterling and it was less than 24hrs notice. All social media. The rally itself was emotional: people were crying and singing (not violent in any way shape or form). There were police everywhere and snipers lined up on the surrounding rooftops. WTF!

Do you compare your life progress (in the traditional and unhealthy sense) to your classmates? Is that the secondary invisible function of a reunion? I wouldn’t want to go just for that reason.

I also went to a PWI that had a big black population. Temple in Philly. At the time I went it was around 17% black which is a lot comparatively because usually schools total nonwhite population is 17% including all races. There was a community there. The only time I regret not going to Spelman (I was accepted there

I think shes saying, “black” music is still male dominated. So you can have multiple male rap artist that have similar style and still get a lot of play on radio etc. etc. But there is a stricter limit on how many black female artist get airtime, publicity, etc. And I agree.

I agree with you. I keep saying all up and down this thread hoping someone will hear. This is her critique of the industry, not of black people as a community. But more so that theres only a limited amount of space for black female artist. And she’s right. I REALLY don’t think she was implying that black people turned

SO first, I dont think thats what Tinashe was saying I think her words are being twisted. Second, as far as mixed girls crying them hi yella tears I agree with you. I have not seen mixed girls bullied and outcasted like I hear about all the time. Slick little comments..absolutely! Jealousy... yes of course. But thats
