This response is actually surprising to me because I have so many not great things to say about this show, depicting the suicide being a problem hadn’t even crossed my mind.

I’m young and childless but am with constant anxiety and depression about never finding “my tribe”. Was not expecting other parents at my potential child’s school but as usual incorrectly assumed that by the time I popped one out I’d have it together. So...no... is what I’m hearing.
I didn’t know “make-up free” should only be believed unless there is a percentage in front. I usually take ‘make-up free’ to mean...no makeup. And I haven’t ever heard her say this new and irrelevant contingency of ‘rest of my life’ that you’ve added to back up a point that you’re failing to make. got me there!
I hate to say it and make this conversation about something else entirely but us black folks accepting a certain level of physical abuse as not only acceptable but warranted as part of raising a child is (one reason) why people in the black community don’t speak up when they see/hear abuse. Because we’re told its…
This is blowing my mind. Are Maid of Honors really expected to PAY for bridal showers, bachelorette parties, clothing/beauty for people other than themselves, etc?? IS this real. I thought being asked to be MOH was supposed to be an H. But now if someone asked me to do that I’d be offended. “No I’m not funding half of…
Reading this not only made me sad but it made me think about how I would gently let down any friend of mine that had those expectations of me. I zoned off for a moment mid comment to accept that I would lose a friedn in that scenario. Presumably a good one considering I’d been asked to be Maid of Honor.
I guess the closest thing the singles will get is a housewarming party. I would do a registry for family (they’d understand and would probably want to contribute to my “home”) not so much for friends.
I’m so confused. Cuz in the quote it didn’t seem like he was giving commentary or an opinion about it. He’s saying the same question I had when I read that piece from Alicia’s makeup artist a while back. Oh, I thought she didn’t wear makeup. And as a black woman that is not redboned or freckled nor a millionaire I’m…
From Alicia Keys twitter I’m sure its still up: “Y’all, me choosing to be makeup free doesn’t mean I’m anti-makeup. Do you!”
Agreed. I find it weird this is debatable about whether its wrong. Its wrong. Its worse than just wearing make up. You’re setting equally bad expectations by wearing all these invisible makeup products and then selling them as your natural skin/face.
self tanner...faux freckles... those are “skincare”?
I’m surprised how much she changed. She really does seem like she has an anger problem because now she’s very mean and combustible and she was not like that before. When everyone was anti-Stassi she found the strength to stand up to Stassi. It was off some silly stuff that Stassi was willing to eat her words about but…
I hope you’re not paying. I was a union organizer. You can learn a lot of that on the job. Unless you;re going to school to be a lawyer or an arbitrator you’re wasting your money. Instead you should try interning or volunteering as an organizer.
Are you as concerned by all the money being stolen from workers by employers? Are you familiar with how heavy wage theft is. Are you familiar that people have to pay out of their pocket for things like uniforms and badges. Are you familiar with tipped workers having their tips given to other employees or taken by…
“move a different pace” translates to “work humane hours with humane workloads”. Can’t have that now can we!
“Paying people livable wages is like throwing it in the garbage. I hope this measure passes because people being able to feed their children, buy homes, afford to go to the doctor is causing more harm than good.”
And this is what happens when a union doesn’t have resources so they can’t afford to hire organizers, union reps, lawyers, etc. This is what the intention behind RTW is. You’re seeing first hand how it works.
Amen.
They’ll get the benefits. The one thing they can “refuse” is health insurance and retirement. And people will do that if they get a better deal from a spouse, etc. But they will get so many benefits: a set schedule, job protection, sick days, vacations days, paid holidays, yearly raises, etc. They will reap all these…
Very privileged perspective. And also ignorant but we’ll start with the privilege: the majority of low wage work is done by people of color and women. IF you’re “as liberal as they come”, then you’ll agree these people have very little ability to “negotiate” their own deal outside of: “Here’s the deal: you work here,…
