The book Sundiver by David Brin has a refrigerator laser that is used to cool the spaceship exploring the sun. I don’t recall the explanation of how it works in the book though (it’s been a while since I read it).

Yeah, I remember seeing a 1F car audio capacitor for the first time, and thought “whoa”. I also remember charging 4700 uF electrolytic caps and going around physics lab zapping people. I don’t want to find out how these work for that :)
