Assuming a conservative 4 miles per kWh, that’s 62.5 kWh in 15 minutes, or an average charging power of 250 kW. Doesn’t look like something that’s going to happen at home. Not until we all get our own Mr Fusion anyway.

You can use either a mercury switch, or a magnetic reed switch, to detect the garage door position as well. But I like having the garage door opener report it to you directly. I wonder if my opener has those outputs...

The Photon is also WiFi based (and is cheaper). You can create a REST interface to read from or write to the I/O pins, so it is fairly easy to have it energize a relay and open / close the garage door. What worries me is the security, since it all goes through Particle’s servers. I don’t know if it works with Blynk…
