Agree with and actually have everything on your list (except for voice control, which I only use in my car for navigation), and also with IPS monitor - I even brought my own monitor to work because the cheap TN monitors are so crappy. Some points : you do NOT want long exposure for the moon with a long telephoto. And you do not need large aperture when shooting and stopped down lenses are usually sharper. I use f/8 or f/11 and 1/100 sec or faster, ISO 100 to 200 on a 400mm lens with 1.4x extender. I manual focus using the LCD and use mirror lock up.

There's also the fact that low ridership in those hours would mean that cost would go up a lot (personnel overtime, wear and tear on equipment, energy) with hardly any increase in revenue. And the main group to benefit are the homeless.
