Yeah, exactly. That seems like the most logical explanation. Taking that into account, there really doesn’t seem to be much need for a lot of mental gymnastics to connect the stories together. It seems pretty obvious you’re the original Doom marine in this game. Now, all they need do is at least introduce an option to

To me, it seemed painfully obvious from nearly the beginning of the game that you’re playing as the Doom marine. I distinctly remember, from playing previous Dooms, at least one storyline ending with the Doom marine deciding to stay behind in Hell (It’s possible, though, that I’m remembering this from the awful books,

Now playing

I don’t know the details, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this trailer, the voice actors, and scriptwriter were hired within Japan to simplify the logistics of getting it made. There are only a handful of English language voice acting and entertainment studios out here so, without a whole lot of competition, you end up

If you think Nintendo headquarters didn’t have a say in this, you’re delusional

Haha, in fact, I do eat pizza with a knife and fork when appropriate and I think lobster is overrated and I make no apologies for either of these things. Also, I hate pasta because it’s too clumsy to eat (penne, macaroni, etc. notwithstanding) and I feel like I’ve almost been discriminated against because of it. When

I’ve always been of a mind that eating something tasty should be as easy and least-annoying as possible (cooking and preparation is another thing), and what you have described sounds super, super annoying. It sounds like doing one of those exercises in the gym where the setup is super annoying and taking the plates

8-4 strike a good balance, for sure. They know when a more literal translation will suffice and when something with a little more flair is necessary. I’ve followed their work on several games and it is consistently excellent. Several of their guys are amazing at what they do and could easily outdo some big names in

To be fair, if in some insanely unlikely turn of events, a dog ended up working for me, I’d probably find cause to fire it at least within its first week. I’d keep it around a few days for the novelty, though.

I think you’re actually touching on a big problem with direct translations: As a localizer and producer for games and anime, I can say with authority that a lot of Japanese content is simply not high quality when it comes to story and dialogue. Typically, it’s needlessly verbose and has a tendency towards characters

Now, I’m not saying that 12,000 dollars is small change, nor is it the kind of money that, say, actors make, but it is the kind of amount that you can’t really complain when your employer decides to not give you that amount anymore. Like, it’s kind of weird that this is written in such a way as to imply that this guy

Even as lifelong gamers, my friends and I have always made fun of the more absurd elements of games and game design, which is basically what Conan does with these segments. The first half dozen or so were really, really funny. The one for Assassin’s Creed Unity was hilarious, in my opinion, but honestly, the quality

The two Metal Gear games, Knack and Bloodborne (although that one is tenuous maybe). I’m in Tokyo working in the gaming industry actually. I spent a year in Urawa. Nice place!

Well, 10 out of 20 of the top selling games are western-made, and an additional 4 are Japanese games made specifically with a western audience in mind, so...

Yeah, for like ten years at this point.

You have to keep in mind that most Japanese players that own a major current gen console are already geared to like western games more than the average Japanese player. Mobile and handheld rule the market out here, so those buying consoles are largely doing so for the foreign games.

Conan definitely has a presence in South Korea. I have a couple of Korean co-workers and they all know of him and some actively watch translated versions of the Clueless Gamer videos at work.

I don’t really get all this “Scalia’s dead, sad day,” coverage. What is newsworthy about an obese elderly man in obviously declining health dying of a heart attack?

I’ve lived abroad for ten years and I can say with confidence that the global opinion of Americans changes drastically depending on current events and who’s president. It’s all very superficial.

It’s fairly popular, especially with kids

The spacing on the packaging is weird. Looks like it ought to be read, “Nanini Shima-suka.” Seems too lazy to be a potentially real product, like they got some third generation Nikkei-jin to write up the copy.
