Yup.
Yup.
This is the culprit, right here. Stop bathing in this stuff, people, for christ's sake. It just makes the bacteria meaner and bigger and more resistant.
LOL. No, I'm just not always great at catching the nuances of a complex argument right away. You explained it well, and now I understand better, and I thank you for that.
Once more, I never said I know what it's like to be a POC- that would be silly. But yes, I DO know what it is like to be a minority. There is more than one kind of minority.
Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, agreed then.
I will absolutely cop to the fact that as a white person, I don't understand my privilege. (I guess that's what makes it privilege.) Also, I never meant to imply that I know what it's like to be black, but yes, I do know what it is like to be a minority of one kind or another (such as the only non-Christian in class,…
What.
See, that's what's funny- I grew up in a very small town in Wyoming that had only one black family. Everyone else was white. I grew up seeing nothing but mostly white people. I also deeply, deeply hated my hometown and most of the people in it. I was reviled as a freak because I had a pierced eyebrow and wore a lot of…
Fair point- but I still think it's pretty dumb to tell the rest of us that a certain dialect "belongs" to any one group. It's part of the popular culture now, which means it belongs to everyone. It's equally offensive if I, as a white person, told someone not to use "my language", because it "belongs to us".
I just took one of the quizzes, and found out I have a slight preference for dark skin over light skin. Is that highly unusual for a Caucasian? Did anyone else get the same results?
I think poor white folk are pretty much ridiculed as much as poor black folk are. Poor people, in general, are looked down upon.
Yup- and there was the threshold. I crossed it. I am officially sick and tired of hearing about Jennifer Lawrence.
Oh, stop it. That was part of the vernacular for both white and black folk of the lower classes in the south.
Oh, so now it's all about sisterhood, eh Taylor?
So you're saying that only people with 30k+ in liquid assets should be allowed to adopt or have children? I hate to break it to you, but I've known plenty of rich people who were horrible parents, as well as poor folk who were great parents.
I don't particularly care for it, but I have heard "petting the kitty".
It would also be great if men actually gave a shit about issues that effect women. It's all fine and dandy for women to be objectified, but the second it happens to a man, that's when they decide to care?
You missed the point, dear. The point is not that men should feel pressured to live up to an aesthetic ideal. The point is that the author of the original article conveniently ignores the fact that this has been the reality for women all along. He also cherry-picks his examples in order to make his (very weak)…
Word. I love me some hairy men. :)
That's some pretty awesome shit right there. :)
