With TLJ, he kind of shifted more from being Zuko towards being Azula. He starts off with ‘It’s all for you Grandpa!’ but by the end it’s the other extreme of ‘Fuck my parents. Fuck grandpa. Fuck Snoke. THIS IS MY HOUSE NOW!’

Gonna be honest - overall, Rogue One remains the weakest of the Disney movies for me. Which is really frustrating because it didn’t have to be.
The trailers actually promised a really solid story with an interesting character arc in Jyn to build off of.

Then the recutting happened, and all those promising points and

The greatest irony is seeing the ones who now want Lucas back and lament his selling, blissfully unaware that much of their behavior was likely what drove him to sell and get away from the brand in the first place.

Don’t forget if you suggest their heroic white guys might not be perfect.
The foaming at the mouth I have seen over the idea that Luke Skywalker might not be perfect is fucking staggering from a fanbase that got through most of the 90s derisively calling him ‘whiner’.

(Meanwhile, I spent a good chunk of TLJ rather

‘split decision’

Please, for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE tell me that wasn’t a conscious pun.

The fact either SW canon hasn’t had an Alex Jones-esque figure who insists things like Alderaan was a hoax and that Neimoidians secretly control the galaxy still is surprising to me.

I dunno, the fact is the movie even as it is now does kind of seem like it’s building up more stakes than it fully pays off. There’s a lot going into that mission suggesting it will be a steep toll (besides the stories of Ford’s wanting to kill Han, we have the much more overt clues that they were thinking of having

On the one hand, this would be a fair point.

On the other, for that to work we then have to accept the unspoken implication that the Tattooine garrison were unhinged psychopaths who were completely fine with slaughtering and burning civilians for little more than potentially, unknowingly, fucking with government

Born in ‘84. I started as ‘yay ewoks’
Then I went ‘boo ewoks’
Now I’m at ‘...those things were eating human flesh’ and looking at them with silent horror.
As far as I’m concerned, you could recut that final celebration to the score from Cannibal Holocaust and it’d still track.

...actually, that might fit the scene really

In other cases, I’d be kind of inclined to agree.

In the case of Star Wars, however, where the meta-history is regularly being Rashomon’d over, I can kind of see why some of these stories get rolled out to clear up misconceptions. Particularly when some of the inaccurate accounts are being used as fodder in fan fights.

“I love you.”
“DEATH IS BUT A DOOR, TIME A WINDOW. I’LL BE BACK!”

Tangentially related was the short-lived tweet from Bill Mitchell where he tried to argue “But she said Planet of the Apes, in which ape is superior to man, so is it racist if they’re superior here?” for her.

Of course, as quick as he was to delete it, it got screencapped.

No word yet if he’s picked a vase for that

So, as I see the right wing people on social media tearing their clothes, gnashing their teeth, and swearing these services are dead to them, I find myself wondering.

Was this something each came to of their own accord, or did rightsholders just decide “SHUT IT DOWN! SHUT IT ALL DOWN!” and sent the order out to all

And that’s where you’re wrong, my good man.

EDIT - and someone beat me to it...and Kinja doesn’t allow for deletion.

God, I hate this system.

“The real problem is that after “There is another” they basically ignored Leia’s force powers thereafter!” — That’s partly because Lucas making Leia the sister was bordering on an afterthought.
The ‘There is another’ line in ESB was part of Lucas’s script insurance policy, much like Han in carbonite, in case Hamill

“Even back then, George Lucas had strict control over what could and could not be considered canon.” — and those early novels are a big part of why I’ve kind of become dismayed at the myth that’s emerged that Lucas seemingly had it all mapped out from the word go.

There’s a lot of little things in those early books

What you do in house and what you show to the public are still two different things here.

The one Trump ‘appearance’ I still don’t feel guilty pointing out to people is the one he can’t see a Goddamn dime from - reminding people that Berkley Breathed made Trump the instrument of Bloom County’s destruction in a long term story arc that culminated in the guy (in the body of Bill the Cat) buying up the comic

Because it always bears repeating at times like this - even back during his ‘liberal’ phase, Donald Trump took out a full page ad calling for the Central Park 5 to get the death penalty.

So...no one’s gonna make a case for A History of Violence on this one?
