I used to have a problem with the concept of overmedication until it was pointed out to me that the alternatives were suicide, lack of a functional life or less useful coping strategies like alcoholism.

It’s tough because I do agree BOTH that overmedication is an issue AND that empathetic human connection as a part of a therapeutic approach to mental illness is a good thing. But I really dislike what I see as rampant misinformation (despite antagonistic, aggressive accusations to the contrary) about medication.…
