A moment ago you were saying this claim was false and that the date didn’t clearly show it was the case. Now you say ‘of course’ it’s true. Which is it?
Not even close. I believe there are a minority of sex workers who chose their profession. I also believe these are the most likely to have a voice to publicly air their views as to their needs. However, the vast majority of people in the sex trade are either explicitly trafficked, or may as well be for the extent to…
No, it really is. If you wish to show me evidence that decrim doesn’t lead to an increase in trafficking, I welcome it.
Ah. Ok, well, I don’t consider this to be conflation. That’s merely a list of things that the open letter is in opposition to decriminalizing.
Again, this is false. Studies show that decrim of the kind you’re supporting creates greater demand which leads to far higher levels of trafficking. The legal businesses act as a front for the black market. I understand your point and I understand you think it makes sense. Intuitively it certainly does make sense. But…
Oddly enough, if one wants to hear horror stories about the sex trade, one typically has to ask those who are no longer a part of it. It’s not like presently trafficked people have the option available to them to publish a goddamned book about it.
Give me an example of when I’ve done this. Depending on what you mean, I possibly am doing it on purpose, yes.
Because their point is not to specifically advocate for any particular model. Their point is to condemn a move towards legalizing pimps and johns.
Incorrect. The letter opposes decriminalization of pimps and johns. The letter is pushing for the Nordic model, within which sex work itself is decriminalized.
Hi Gaye,
Jesus. I was expecting criticism of Moran’s views. Not a whole bevy of links from people (largely the same person?) claiming she is lying and was never a sex worker at all.
The very reason people support the nordic model is because most sex work is non consensual. Sure, there are sex workers who do it by choice. But that’s not the reality for the vast majority. The average age at which people become sex workers is 13-14. Does that sound consensual to you?
Illuminate me.
It is, in as much as it indicates that the letter is opposed to decriminalizing sex workers. The letter is only opposed to decriminalizing pimping and johns.
Ah. So you intend to be out in the open about being a needlessly antagonistic, insincere bully from hereon in.
“What matters is that we need a solution that will help all sex workers and improve their working conditions & quality of life”.
I’m one of those weirdos who thinks the subject of consent is more complicated than you give it credit for, yes. People who have sex with multiple men every day in order to feed their children, because they have no other meaningful choice, having lived their entire lives in a society that has ostracized and abused…
Oh, well that settles everything.
Do you seriously need someone to explain to you the difference between criminalizing pimps and Johns and criminalizing sex workers?
