The coke is strong with this one.
The coke is strong with this one.
I’ll tell you the reason.
They do not want to draw any extra attention to this case, because it hurts them. If you wish to sell people on the idea that everyone should have a gun for self defense this is the last thing you want to talk about.
Consider that a legal gun owner in a matter of 3 seconds after calmly…
Why aren’t the NRA folks rioting over this? A responsible gun owner did everything you’re supposed to do but was killed.
The Office, Trainspotting, much of Parks and Rec, much of Seinfeld, It’s Always Sunny, Louie. Pathetic people acting outrageously is a pretty common trope.
Congratulations on being a unicorn, sir or madam.
Or maybe instead of pathetically unfunny, it’s an amplified reflection of the pressures so many women face to nab a dude and meet a series of superficial heteronormative milestones before even reaching 30? And as Bobby mentions, she’s not rewarded for that behavior. I definitely feel like the film works to subvert…
The “We Hate Movies” podcast has an episode about this where they posit that Dermot Mulroney’s character is a serial killer, among other things. It’s hilarious and I recommend it highly.
Exactly. It’s a heightened, comedic version of that crisis a lot of people feel when they realize their life *isn’t* going to work out like a romantic comedy.
In college when I first saw it, I thought she clearly loved the guy. Now when I watch it I can see that this is merely the normal adult sanity lapse that we all get when everyone around us is hitting milestones we thought we’d hit but are nowhere close to meeting. I mean, her breakdown is on steroids but still, I…
That was exactly the point - she didn’t love him, but wanted what he represented, what she thought she should want (love, marriage, stability) and when she realized that the man she’d been considering her fail-safe wasn’t going to be available to her anymore, she panicked and tried to drag him back to her even if…
Did anyone else die a little bit inside realizing Julia Roberts’ character is only 27? Successful at 27! 27! Something else to cry about when watching this movie now....
I don’t think the movie ever intended anyone to believe she really loved the guy.
90s So White, is why.
> The whole “well don’t give him a platform” thing is not a good argument- he ALREADY has a platform, he’s been endorsed by the scumbag President of the United States. It’s not like people don’t know who Alex Jones is, it’s too late for “don’t normalize Infowars”. It’s been normalized already.
The whole “well don’t give him a platform” thing is not a good argument- he ALREADY has a platform,
Let’s say she comes at him tough. Most people already know he’s bullshit. The people who believe in his garbage are a little unhinged. No argument is going to make them change their minds. By interviewing him on a major network she’s only introducing his ideas to more unhinged people.
The problem is that if she calls him on his shit, the people who are inclined to listen to him will be mad at her and further retreat into their little bubbles of hatred and ignorance.
This was my first thought. He’s already famous enough, hopefully she will grill the everloving fuck out of him. But I kind of doubt it. This is in line with the current “journalists must cover all ‘sides’ of the issue” rather than telling the goddamn truth. And that’s why Captain Shitbag is now the president.
