How about suggesting some really different OSes?
Good info for someone else trying Ubuntu. You've set more than reasonable expectations. Many things work, some do not. Due to the hate between Microsoft and all things Linux, don't hold your breath waiting for anything to work with Windows-Live.
Aren't you being a little harsh? Arch is a handful, but the "night school" article walks someone through the setup.
To be clear, I'm not just a Mac hater. I'm a general Apple hater. I did not buy this computer, the company did for multiple specific reasons.
Unfortunately, building a computer for someone else is a losing battle. It isn't worth it unless that is your primary business. The bundles from the big guys ARE cheaper than anyone can build and you don't get stuck providing support to family or friends. MS-Windows support sucks. Don't do it.
Checked on iMovie. It had locked up during the import of a 1080i mpeg2 file. Can't figure out how to close it in the GUI. Exit/Quit is not highlighted. Hitting the red-circle 20 times didn't do anything either.
Yep, most things were pretty easy to figure out. A few are still nagging.
That has been true so far, but as they become more desperate, I'd be surprised if they don't go after proxies for one-stop-torrent-download data shopping in the future. Hummm.
F/LOSS MP3Split does this, according to their webpage. [mp3splt.sourceforge.net] including finding the silent places to split a file.
I found the controls for the mouse wheel - but that isn't the issue. Why did they force so many people to change it when only a few were impacted negatively? Apple controls all the hardware and they know the mini doesn't have a touchpad. Seems like designer arrogance.
Yep. Been at it all morning. I'm working on a lengthy blog post about it.
If you are reading LH, I suspect you'd like to pick a router that supports DD-WRT, OpenWRT and/or Tomato firmware replacements. Buffalo makes some impressive WiFi-N routers that come preinstalled with DD-WRT.
For a friend of a friend, buy the total PC from someone else; don't build. We can't touch the pricing for $350 bundle from Dell that includes Windows7 and all new components.
**Always** - - **Always** — check microcenter for CPU prices. They have a Core i5-2500K for $180 right now. Add a Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 for $100AR and you have a smoking system ready for virtualization of anything. USB3 and SATA6. (6) SATA connections total. Even paying local tax it still comes out cheaper than…
I've had some Shure e2c's ($65) for about 7 yrs and traveled pretty extensively with them. I always take these on every flight. Absolutely ZERO issues.
It depends on what you can reuse. If you buy a famous brand like Dell, HP, Compaq, Acer, Packard Bell, etc... then they may use non-standard components that don't fit or work with commonly available parts. Power supplies come to mind.
For historical reasons publishing laws and contracts are on a per-country basis. Not all countries have laws that the content makers believe protect their media enough. I don't know whether India (or any other country) falls into this group or not.
For a beginner, keep it simple.
