This is the downside (upside?) to drinking and cooking.

I always felt that Jacques Pepin’s “whole fucking bottle of wine” approach was a bit overwhelming, so I’m glad that Bourdain approves of my restraint. Plus it leaves more for drinking...
Oh no, not Lemon Bar! Where will he go for his Lemon Parties now?
Shit happens? All of us were just waiting for that ship to go down. The question was more when and how than if.
As a transplant to Ireland, my first Irish pub crawl let me in on why the Irish really drink it: you can drink heroic quantities and wind up only moderately drunk AND not feel like barfing.
Excellent. I’ve recently moved to Ireland and I’ll have to seek these out. I’ve been experimenting with a few whiskys above the standard Paddy’s level and have had mixed reactions to the genre. Thus far, Teeling is my favorite.
Wait, I thought I was reading an Onion article...
That’s a solid Lonzo Ball box score.
This is a solid list, and the comments are just as good.
I had an Irish version of this (Poitin), which I reasoned couldn’t be any worse than vodka or eau de vie, right?
I’m just here for the “pulled meat in an Uber” jokes
Miraculously I managed to avoid it, but it was probably because my stomach parasites had stomach parasites after 6 years in Beirut.
I recently moved to Ireland from the Middle East and was appalled at how wasteful everything is in the markets. In Beirut, you can bring your own bags to the local fruit and vegetable stands and wind up with zero waste. It was great. In the UAE, you’d usually be stuck in big stores like Carrefour or local co-ops, but…
It was not necessarily harmless. For instance, Arizona lost their entire recruiting class over what wound up being a misleading related ESPN story.
A useful trick: after serving the food from the pan, return the pan to the stovetop with a bit of water in it - if you have a heating element you may not even need to turn the stove on at all. The heat and convection of the water will soften and lift the crust from the pan - stubborn stuff can be scraped up with a…
If it happened today, I would have done that - but this was a lifetime ago when I was both utterly incompetent and disgusted by the stench coming from the unit.
Something’s got to give. Brexit might slow things down... or drive more people to Dublin. It’s doubly shitty since credit is so tight with the mortgage laws so nobody can afford to buy if they don’t have cash. But if they loosen credit again, the housing prices will skyrocket. There’s no winning here.
Before flying off the handle, I sat and thought about this a bit and I think there may be a few potential benefits of this method:
My wife habitually drinks swamp water because she insists on using a travel cup with a (reusable) straw at home. She’ll ask me to refill it and I can almost see the bacteria teeming in it.
My old roommate was putting onion peels down the disposal, which got us a withering lecture from the plumber who came to unclog our stinky mess of a drain.
