As upset as this ruling makes me, I’m equally curious about what legal action Satanic Temple is going to take to demonstrate its absurdity.

I recently started looking for new jobs after growing concerned about the long-term viability of my institution. Various red flags started popping up that suggested that we were moving towards austerity, if not financial insolvency, and it seemed to be a prudent time to look elsewhere. I never want to be the last rat

The Burj is much more impressive from a distance - up close, it just looks like a big building, but once you pan out a bit, you really get how fucking big that thing is compared to everything else. I live in the Emirate to the north of Dubai, a solid 80 km away from the Burj, and on a clear day you can still see it

It’s hilarious that they got both the Arabic and Hebrew pronunciations wrong while trying to claim that the rest of us are mispronouncing the word.

Exactly. There are no long vowels in hommos (حمص), and there’s a “shadda” emphasizing the “m” sound, so not only is the H aspirated, it gets separated into two syllables. I don’t know what those “Spoon University” goobers are going on about.

Having grown up in Arizona, I still giggle a bit when I hear Spaniards pronounce their own language.

And by that, of course, I mean the sinful deliciousness of the morel mushrooms.

Related point: I could see this violating Facebook’s policy about erotic images.

This is rich. What else can we convince them to consume?

Camel milk is pretty unpalatable if you’re not used to it, and it can definitely carry parasites if it’s not pasteurized. One of my former students gave me some fresh camel’s milk, which I graciously accepted then threw away when he left.

I’d say that our reliance on cows was based on economics, but also on culture. Most of the people who initially colonized North America were from the British isles, Germany and later Scandinavia, which tended to prefer cow milk to sheep or goat because northern Europe was a cow culture, and the northern colonies

Damn, that first paragraph was enjoyable. Bravo.

It’s different in different fields. In academia, for instance, I anticipate rejection about 80% of the time, just because it’s how the field works. For my current position, there were 75 applicants. I’ve gotten four job offers in 5 years, but that’s out of close to 40 applications. I’ve been rejected for 5

Perhaps it’s carrying eggs?

As long as we all agree that beef ribs aren’t real ribs, we’re cool.

Actually, the purpose of bureaucracy is to create a paper trail which ideally prevents such shit from happening.

I used to throw from a few different angles (including sidearm) to mess with batters. Also, if they crowded the plate, they were definitely going to get dirty.

I am stealing the hell out of that quote

This, like the vast majority of American hummuses, is way too light on the tahini. Also, it uses canola (!) oil and parsley, which is weird and something I’ve never seen anywhere in the Middle East. I imagine it’s smooth but beany. You can get a similar smoothness but better flavor by increasing the tahini content,

I do, and I’ve gotten the thumbs up from discerning Arab friends from across the Middle East. It’s actually easier to get a smooth texture with canned. Just drain them and wash them before you blend since the juice messes with the other flavors.
