Autonomy over one’s own body is a right.

Or if you are against abortion, how about making it so that everyone is given a proper, comprehensive sex education and easy and cheap access to birth control and sexual health care. Guarantee with those things, the abortion rate will drastically drop.
“a Catholic law student and self-described feminist”
If you’re anti-abortion but respect that it’s your personal decision and are cool with letting others do whatever they want because they ALSO get to make that personal decision, by all means join us.
This isn’t the first time we’ve had white supremacists in the white house. Black folks can get through this the same way we always have. And this may (almost certainly) be my darker side talking here, but i hope that whites feel a fraction of what blacks and other minorities have and will have to go through and learn…
Are these first few comments for real? In a story about a woman who was robbed and bound, wearing nothing but her robe, the comments focus on her looks, makeup and face? Huh? Did we all read the same article or did yall just skip it and share your thoughts on her face?
Putting aside her intelligence and humor and level of care for Americans for a moment, I remain floored by how gracefully MObama has handled the sheer racism and sexism that has been leveled at her. For fucks sake, she is routinely called a man and an ape! I’d be apoplectic, and I’m just a standard citizen.
She wasn’t even that beautiful before the many surgeries.
So much for the party of state’s rights and small government! I hate these people so much. I’m so scared of the next four years. I have no idea how/if we’re going to make it.
Forget all that shit, Kelly. Holding on to your white-hot rage over a meaningless, long-ago blog post is what makes life as a writer worth living.
Honestly, though, there is no woman too beautiful to be called ugly by a man she’s just turned down. To the kind of men who insult women like that, sexual availability is a defining component of attractiveness. (It’s kind of the same way that “slut” is used as an insult against women who say no to sex.)
No, she wasn’t one of the guys. Tom wasn’t grabbing the other guys’ asses, only hers. Letting him do it and them laugh about it was the price of admission for being the girl they tolerated in their group.
“...But this is a lie.” Yes, yes, yes it is. Because as Germaine Greer put it, women have no idea how much men hate us. They lie to us about it all the damn time, so that we might believe them and trust them and take care of them and feed them and fuck them and look nice for them. All the while they keep their boots…
Great piece. And may I recommend getting fat? I am completely invisible now. But nothing makes men angrier than a fat feminist who loves herself. Example number one - Lindy West. She rocks.
This is so good. And mirrors so much of what I feel. Hopeless and angry and just so fucking full of rage at the class of men that I don’t know what to do with myself.
This was amazing. Thank you for writing!
Except Aimee doesn’t sound happy about it at all. She sounds miserable as hell, like being alone is not something she wants but something she must get used to. Resigned to her fate so to speak.
Funny, though, how Emma’s experience is shared by so many women in nearly all industries.
He’s not wrong. The people who are willing to look past Trump bragging about committing sexual assault because he promised them that The Steel Mill Will Reopen! weren’t going to be dissuaded by him saying “n****r”—in part because so many of them use the word themselves.
The world is becoming less violent everyday.
