A $40k fully loaded RAV4 today is filled with technology that didn’t exist on a $100k Mercedes S-class 10 years ago.

Sales numbers are only part of the story. If those cars required heavy incentives to be moved, there could be a net loss and that would be as good as not having any such cars to sell in the first place.
In downtown SF, break-ins are so common that people who park on the street just remove all valuables and leave the doors unlocked - since the thieves tend to try the door before they break the window.
Perhaps there should be a nationwide law that all cars must leave the dealer with a proper metal license plate? California is particularly stupid about this. There is no reason why people should be allowed to drive with easy-to-fake paper plates for 6 months (and evade bridge tolls in the process).
Other countries are…
More of a shitty human cop situation rather than an argument against ANPR.
Devil’s advocate here - If a plate turns out to be stolen, you still know that the criminal was at a certain place at a certain time, and that can help with the search. For example, if the criminal stole the plate off a car that was parked on someone’s driveway, and didn’t realize that a camera was watching... yeah…
Because an actual luxury car at the same price would in all likelihood have less equipment and be less comfortable. That’s been the case since... Forever?
Hey, Canada is actually a whiter country than the USA (by percentage). The people who put on such stickers likely don’t consider Canada to be “foreign”, at least not any more than minority American citizens.
Absolutely no problem with this as long as they have good digital sale prices like Steam (and they do right now!). Would be nice if they offered a disc reader peripheral for those who initially buy a discless console and then realize they miss the ability to borrow a friend’s physical game (probably the #1 advantage…
“we are running out of oil”
The UK is linked to mainland Europe via the Chunnel so yes you can drive a car from the UK into Europe and eventually Asia. During the Chunnel portion you simply park on the train and start the car back up when the train exits the tunnel.
How to make people drive less without punishing car enthusiasts: Have reliable transit with park-and-ride facilities. It works in the Bay area - plenty of car owners park at the BART and ride the rest of the way because they don’t want to spend half the day in gridlock. No one forces them to use park and ride - they…
Show me exactly where the “green new deal” is trying to ban planes and I will drink my own urine.
As a martial artist, I have to disagree. I’d love to beat the daylights out of Richard Spencer, the Proud Boys, etc but a morbidly obese grandpa? There’s just no satisfaction in that - it’s like verbally insulting someone with a severe developmental disability. Fatty would probably crumple and surrender before the…
Also, regardless of political leanings, how many young people even watch cable news anymore? It’s not worth the exorbitant cable TV fees and you can get the exact same stuff in written form on their websites, and it’s much faster to read than to watch news, unless you’re blind. I question the value of using cable news…
If you regularly share your car with a family member and thus spend time in the passenger seat now and then, how do they differentiate phone use during that scenario from phone use while driving?
This reminds me of how Toyota had to issue a public statement when questioned about ISIS acquiring nice new Toyota trucks.
Discless, not diskless... It still has a hard drive which is a disk, not a disc!
Marrying a US citizen doesn’t automatically grant you legal status, and if you were in the US illegally at the time of the marriage, it basically locks you out of the most common ways to get legal status. On top of that, the spouse who is already in the US must prove his/her ability to financially support the…
I bought an ancient Honda Civic for $2000, then lived like a pauper for over a year, basically not eating out, not buying new video games, stinging on heat to save on utility bills, etc.
Buying my first desirable car with cash felt great.
Seriously, everyone should start off with the cheapest clean-title Civic or…
