I don’t know about the advantages and disadvantages of living in Sweden vs Denmark, but I’d equate that to how some people live in one jurisdiction of the US or Canada and commute to a jurisdiction where tax rates are different.

The EU does have a 10% import tariff on cars but it is far from the most protectionist. Notably, it’s fairly straightforward to grey import non compliant cars as long as you perform necessary mods and pay the fees. I’ve seen quite a few US spec cars on the roads there.
Denmark, like Singapore, uses that tax to discourage car ownership entirely. They want people to ride bicycles and transit. While that’s not my cup of tea, I have to admit that society as a whole benefits from this - less congestion, people are healthier, and the air is cleaner.
Wrong, sales taxes, not car taxes, are higher. NZ doesn’t even have car tariffs.
Besides currency conversion you also have to account for sales tax of 15% which is included in the sticker price, unlike in the US.
NZ actually doesn’t have any car tariffs as it doesn’t even have a car industry.
Fun fact - NZ has few car regulations (pretty much anything that's right hand drive can be imported) so you can find all sorts of unusual used cars from Asia - mostly JDM models but also Indian and Malaysian brands!
That's 65k USD and includes a 15% sales tax. Not THAT far from US pricing in the end.
Keep in mind that NZ prices include a 15% sales tax so the actual price paid pre-tax is more like 56k USD
In USD that’s more like 65k and it also includes their 15% sales tax. The pre tax price is more like 56k USD which is less far fetched.
And here I thought this man was part of the “master race”... the “master race” seems to be unable to overcome minor difficulties...
devil’s advocate here: How about instead of playing Bond, Elba could play a significant character who exists in the Bond universe (and Bond could have a secondary supporting role for a change, or maybe even nothing more than a cameo)?
Also, manufacturers are likely to spread out price increases since a lot of their imported models are incredibly popular, so that $1800 estimate is probably very conservative. They aren’t going to freeze domestic prices and raise imported prices 25% - it’s going to be a 10-15% increase on every single model for sure.
Why do they even bother trying to reason with the fatass? He’s an extreme case of Dunning-Kruger and his false beliefs have been firmly rooted since at least the 1980s.
No, the Camry’s US content is closer to 70%. I think the 90% applies only to North America as a whole.
It is true though. Due to the market size and relatively low taxes, both upfront and ownership costs are lower in the US than in other developed nations. Even developing countries tend to have higher purchase prices thanks to taxation.
Everyone loses. Like others said, America’s Big Three import many cars into the US, and their US-made vehicles also use imported parts.
Due to the popularity of many imported models, any price increases will likely have to be spread out across the whole lineup regardless of location of final assembly. And layoffs will be inevitable. Retaliatory tariffs from other countries will also kill the growing export market for US-made cars.
Slapping on tariffs overnight on both parts and finished vehicles would devastate the industry and lead to massive losses and layoffs.
Remember that this guy holds grudges for years. He has a bone to pick with other world leaders, most recently Justin Trudeau, for perceived slights. He’s also a proven racist who’d love to stick it to non-whites in Asia and Latin America. His obsession with undoing everything Obama did proves this.
