Canada uses the same system. Baffling that the US doesn’t, even in places where you’re required to stick the card into a reader that has a keypad. I later learned that the keypad is for debit purchases.

In Canada, most retail credit card purchases require you to enter a 4-digit PIN, similar to that of a debit card. In a restaurant, that means the server will carry a portable machine out so each customer can key in the code. Obviously this doesn’t help if someone photographed both sides of the card and went on an

Anyone else notice that this Prius had a rearview camera? Made this mishap even more unexcusable...

He didn’t ask for a trade war. He wanted someone to negotiate with China to drop that duty, because he hates tariffs in general.

I think it’s unfair too, but isn’t it better to hold a civilized negotiation and work towards reducing or eliminating that tariff?

You do realize Chinese steel imports are a drop in the bucket compared to imports of high-quality steel from allies like Canada?

Problem is that many of the targeted products aren’t made locally to begin with. Pushing these tariffs without first giving companies time to establish domestic production infrastructure will only disrupt prices. Factories take years to build - often longer than a presidential term - and companies are not going to

To be fair, there is a serious oversupply of crude oil that keeps pre-tax gas prices low. Gas is expensive in many nations outside the US because of taxes, not oil prices.

Hopefully by the next generation, TV news will have died out and Sinclair will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

One thing to note - Many cars made in US factories are exported to Canada and other nations whose emissions standards are stricter - at least at California levels if not higher.

The Tacoma and Ridgeline aren’t imports - they’re made in the USA

In many countries, annual car taxes are based on engine displacement (rather outdated way to do it IMO), so consumers there will appreciate having turbocharged low-displacement engines. Since automakers want to do “one size fits all” for the world, that means we get a lot of turbocharged low-displacement 4-cyls in

Technically BMW’s flagship is the Rolls Royce Phantom :)

“Lack of access to global markets?”

European brands have special programs for those demographics. There’s even a website called ExpatRide to help expats in many countries lease cars without local credit.

My main gripe with this otherwise fine car is that Honda still insists on using the stupid Lanewatch system instead of a normal blind spot monitor (which even their own Accord finally uses).

Installing aftermarket HID lights into a car that I traded in two years later.

The “keeping up with the Joneses” mentality has been around since before the Kardashians were even born. Why do you think McMansions even exist?

Many cars are now made in right-to-work states. We also import Mexican-made vehicles - wages are far lower there.

When you factor in inflation and modern tech, I’d say non-luxury cars are actually a better deal than ever.
