I always got the impression that they did never hang out again, it was explicitly stated in the movie. I never got the impression that they "ended up together".
Having never seen it, I would guess that that quote is probably the only positive thing I would get from the movie. And I'm of that age (37, if you must know).

That's just sad. Millions of children will be left behind without a good understanding of the basic principles which describe our world. That just saddens me.
I understand that it does require a level of trust of the experts. But that trust is earned through demonstration of scientific principles. It differs greatly from religion where the requirement is to believe in what cannot be observed… by anyone.
