I was young kid in the 70's. It was assumed then that by the year 2000 we'd be living on the moon, have robot servants, and probably have flying cars. So how did all that work out? Futurism is just wishful thinking.

IMO, when a writer wants to make a big life change for a character the only question the publisher should ask is "will it make the book better?"
